Which Putter is Right for You?

You drive for show and putt for dough. That old axiom simply sums up the game of golf. What kind of game are we playing when a six inch putt becomes more important than your best drive of the day? Therefore, it seems buying the right putter and knowing how use to that pesky little club is probably the most important thing we do on the golf course.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to find the right putter for your golf game. It’s simply by trial and error. But first, learn about the different putter styles and club heads. Then narrow your search down to a particular type of putter. Then check out the name brands to find the putter with just the right touch and feel for you. The one that gives you total confidence when lining up that 15 foot putt. The best news is, that unlike a driver, you don’t have to spend big bucks on your putter. Sure there are models that cost several hundred dollars, but you can also find terrific putters in the $10.00 to $25.00 range.

Let’s explore the different types of putters. The tried and true conventional putter has been around as long as golf itself. It is still the best choice for almost every golfer. One should consider the two other putter types only if you are having big putting problems and need something, anything to get that smooth putting stroke back in the grove.

Bad putting usually means your hands just can’t stay steady throughout the putt and you need something to keep them and your other body parts from yipping when you are trying to put the ball in the hole.

Belly putters and long putters can help. The belly putter gives you a third point of contact, your stomach, when lining up your putt and can act as a fulcrum, keeping your body more stationary.

The long putter is like a grandfather clock. The pendulum like swing forces the wrists to stay locked and send the putt in its intended direction.

The putters grip is strictly a personal decision. Some golfers like a thick grip and feel it helps keep the wrists straight. Others like a slimmer grip and feel it gives them more control. Try both and use the one that simply feels the most confortable. You’ll know it when you hold it.

Putters have several different heads. Let’s begin with the one that is probably not your best choice.

Even though most PGA touring pros use heel weighted blade, it is very hard to control and will probably hurt more than help. Check out a heel toe weighted putter or a face balanced mallet head. Both have larger sweet spots and even a poorly hit putt will end up in the general target area.

Offset or hosel shafts are very helpful to the average recreational golfer. The shaft allows the putter to better line up the putt, by being more on top of the golf ball. They also help keep your hands in front of the ball.

There are many excellent putters on the market. You can learn more about the manufacturers like Callaway, Cameron, Ping, Nike, Scotty, Odyssey, Taylor Made, Tommy Armour, Wilson and many more by reading the articles and reviews on this web site. The more knowledge you obtain, the better chance you have of getting that perfect putter.

Putting is mental. Putting is confidence. Putting is practice. Putting is technique. If you can train yourself to do the same thing every time you line up a putt, you’ll get the dough. Even though your playing partners may drive for show.

If you are seeking significant discounts on new york city golf tee times, you’ll be glad to know that most of the golf courses in and around the Big Apple maintain websites through which you can book new york city golf tee times in advance at substantial savings.

The discounts on new york city golf tee times can vary, particularly in terms of what is available. Usually, you are able to reserve an approximate tee time only (these are usually timed to begin every five to ten minutes).

When you book new york city golf tee times over the World Wide Web, the course or country club may offer various extras that include a sleeve of golf balls. A golf cart is not usually included in the greens fee (although it may be). In any event, when you reserve new york city golf tee times online in advance, you’ll need to print out a copy of your reservation and present it at the pro shop when you arrive for your game.

Be aware that like any commodity, new york city golf tee times are subject to market forces; how much you’ll pay is determined by how much demand there is for a particular time slot. Such reservations are granted on a “first come first served” basis, and some new york city golf tee times are in more demand than others. Saturday mornings are extremely popular, and may command greens fees that are twice those charged for a Tuesday afternoon, for example.

The other issue to be aware of is the fact that new york city golf tee times cannot usually be cancelled, and any fees you may have paid in advance are usually non-refundable. The exception is if inclement weather prevents play, in which case you’ll need to contact the course or country club by telephone. If you cannot get a refund, you can at least have your new york city golf tee times changed.

You’ll also want to do some comparison shopping when booking new york city golf tee times. These times vary from one location to another. Some courses and clubs offer more extras than others, and the fees themselves also vary – sometimes dramatically – from one course to another.

A number of these websites also require a credit card for confirmation of your reservation, although others accept payment at the time of arrival for the game.

Those who are planning a vacation or business trip in the NYC area and hope to play a few rounds may also wish to look into package deals that offer discounted lodging near golfing facilities.

Because the City of New York predates the existence of golf in North America, it was not planned with golf and golfers in mind. Unlike Los Angeles, which has over 144 of them in its metro area, there are only 19 new york golf courses
and driving ranges within the five boroughs, 18 of which are publicly owned.

The good news is that rates on tee times and greens fees are very competitive at these public new york golf courses, and are significantly lower than the exclusive and pricey private country clubs – and are more accessible to boot.

City regulations require that residents of NYC have a Resident Permit, which is $6 per year for adults under the age of 62, and $2 for seniors and juniors under age 16. In addition, seniors and juniors can play for discounted rates at public new york golf courses.

One of the great things about public new york golf courses is that fact that greens fees do not vary a great deal. To be sure, prime tee times command higher rates, but you won’t be paying a dramatic premium for playing on the weekends. For example, playing an early nine holes on a Saturday or Sunday morning will cost you only $1.25 more than on a weekday morning. A full 18 holes on the weekend is $41; the prices drop to $33.25 for weekday mornings and $28.75 in the afternoon. Seniors can play a full 18 holes during the week for only $16.75, and juniors for only $7.50.

Another great thing about public new york golf courses is that these fees are the same whether you’re playing in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens or Staten Island. The exception is the Moshulu Driving Range in the Bronx; fees at this facility are slightly higher at some times of the week and slightly lower at others. In addition, Moshulu offers an excellent package deal for seniors that includes a cart and greens fees for two at one low price.

Visitors to New York City should be aware that the public new york golf courses are supported in part by the taxpayers of the city; therefore, those who are not NYC residents should expect to pay an additional fee on top of the required permit.

Public new york golf courses nonetheless represent a tremendous bargain for golf lovers. They are easily accessible by automobile; most are served by NYC’s excellent public transit system as well. For those with youngsters, the City Parks Golf program offers free group golf lessons to children under 16 on public new york golf courses. Parents who are interested should contact the New York City Parks Foundation.

Anyone who is familiar with the history of the Big Apple knows that it was a seaport and commerce center long before it was anything else. The geography of NYC has also played a large part in how the city developed. In short, unlike Los Angeles – which didn’t even exist when New York was a bustling business center and port of entry – anything that came along later had to adapt itself to what was already there.

Case in point - nyc golf courses. Unlike Los Angeles, which has 144 of them, there are only 19 nyc golf courses located within the five boroughs – and 18 of them are owned and operated by the City, meaning that they are owned by the public.

This is actually a good thing, because it means consistent greens fees throughout the city, which are considerable lower than those charged at the private country clubs outside the metro area. The fees for tee times at 17 of the nyc golf courses are established by the NYC Parks Foundation, and are all the same.

The one exception is Moshulu Driving Range in the Bronx, which has slightly different fee structures – which are still quite low for NYC residents with an annual permit (only $6 per year for adults). This is a nine-hole regulation course, par 35, with 3,253 yards. Weekend greens fees are only two dollars more on the weekend, and include the use of a golf cart if available.

The one remaining private driving range within the city is Chelsea Piers. These are located on actual piers in Manhattan and are unusual in that they offer “Simulator Sessions” - a form of technology that was science fiction only a quarter century ago. Those who have seen the science fiction movie Outland that starred Sean Connery may remember Peter Boyle playing virtual golf on a similar device, that at the time was a Hollywood illusion. That technology is now real and available at Chelsea Piers, one of the most technologically advanced nyc golf courses.

Simulator play at Chelsea Piers is expensive, however: a one-hour session will cost you more than an entire eighteen-hole game at one of the traditional open-air nyc golf courses operated by the NYC Parks Foundation. Tee times can be reserved for anywhere from around $30 during the week to about $42 on the weekends. Senior citizens get to play for a little over half that, and kids under 16 can play during the week for as little as $7.50 – and get free golf lessons through the Parks Department to boot!

 The Metal Wood
That Changed the Face of Golfing

Taylor Made, like many golf manufacturing companies was started by a golfing fanatic. Gary Adams was an entrepreneur who spent as much time on the golf course as humanly possible.
His singular claim to fame was the development of the metal wood that literally changed the face of golf forever.

In 1979, Adams’s patented, stainless steel Taylor Made Metal wood clubs made their first appearance at the PGA Merchandise. The odd looking clubs did not exactly take the golfing world by storm. The average golfer was not exactly ready to spend his or her hard earned money on a strange looking golf club made by an unknown company.

Gary Adams knew that unless he could convince professional golfers to use and recommend his golf clubs, the average golfer would never even consider buying them. It was a herculean task, but somehow Adams convinced 47 professional golfers playing in the 1979 PGA tournament to use his Taylor Made Metal woods. Fueled by this exposure, skeptics turned into buyers and sales began to rise. By 1983 Taylor Made Metal woods were prominent on the PGA tour and soon metal became the preferred material used in the golf club manufacturing process. Adams’ aggressive pioneering had borne great rewards.

However, the what have you done for me lately syndrome ran head first into Taylor Made. For the rest of the 1980s, while other golf club manufactures were making great strides, nothing new came out of the Taylor Made factories. In fact, it wasn’t until the mid nineties that Taylor Made introduced its new Burner Bubble driver. The driver’s innovative shaft, that helped golfers swing faster without exerting extra effort, became a success after a prototype Burner Bubble driver became the first Metal wood to win at the Masters. However, the metal wood concept was so popular that Taylor Made continued to grow and prosper.

During that static period, Taylor Made, like many companies that start with a great idea but can’t follow through, knew that the entrepreneurial vision needed to be replaced with a corporate structure. In 1984 Taylor Made was acquired by French Ski equipment manufacturer Salomon S.A. It was a good merger for both entities. Salomon received a strong entry into the rapidly growing golf market and Taylor Made got financial stability and a more organized management structure.

The corporate stage of Taylor Made’s growth was led by George Montgomery. He led Taylor Made from the sixth largest golf manufacturer in the United States to second, only behind Callaway Golf. Taylor Made also produces a line of golf bags and stands.

In 1997, Taylor Made was acquired by Adidas, AG and became part of the worldwide Adidas sporting family. The company has continued to grow and prosper and is still one of the most respected names in golf.

The first thing to do is to get familiar with the kind of golf clubs that you would require. Each set contains a total of 14 clubs, they are categorized as follows: putters, irons and woods. Irons are used for golfing work that is distance-specific, and here the distance is gauged by the weight and size of the head. You will probably be very familiar with these as you would be using them very often on the golf course. Woods are used for very large distances and here the accuracy level is lower than irons. You will have to try hitting a ball a couple of times with a wood to gain an idea as to the distance it would cover with your stroke. For shorter strokes, putters are used as well as for strokes where the accuracy levels are higher. This club provides accuracy when compared to the other clubs. If you want a complete golf club collection you will require one of each.

If you are a beginner and if you do not want to buy a whole golf set, buy adjustable clubs as these can be changed into various types. The 14 clubs may be changed into 5 or 6. This will help carry less and also help you tweak your clubs to make them perfect after buying them. This is one of the best ways to get to know the specific statistics of each club.
Then once you are certain, you may buy golf clubs that are set permanently. Until you buy permanent ones you should be fine with adjustable clubs, as you are a beginner.

Graphite is something many golfers have two views about. The ones who advocate it say that it is light, easy to swing and allows powerful strokes because of its light weight. Golfers who do not approve of graphite will use steel clubs for life. They feel that graphite clubs are very expensive and the benefits do not match the price. Some golfers prefer steel clubs because of their stiffness when compared to the graphite clubs that are flexible. If your strokes are fast and you like clubs with weight then you will probably prefer steel clubs, as there is nothing that is better than having a club that is heavy so when you swing the club the momentum can be felt.

Till you are a good golfer, you will not have to think about head weight and spin. As a beginner it is very important that you familiarize yourself with the aspects of golf and become skilled with the golf clubs, you already have as by doing so you will make better choices in the future and you must constantly make an effort to improve your game. Master the game with the equipment that you have already. You shouldn’t really be wasting money on buying equipment that is just technically more fancy. This is one thing that most golfers will come to regret and which you should seek to avoid.

When you are looking at golf clubs online or at your local store, you will probably see a whole series of golf club specifications and terminology about why this club can make you hit the ball better, or why a certain club is the best around, and so on. It can be hard to make sense of these golf club specifications and find the best club for your needs.

However, there are some basic rules you can follow that will help you make more sense of certain golf clubs specifications.

From grip and flexibility to lie angle, loft angle and weight, there are a myriad of factors to consider. Here is a guide to help you unravel the mysteries of golf club specifications and golf jargon. Grip size Grip size is one of the first golf club specifications you might see in a brochure. If you are looking for a grip size, then pick one that can fit in your hands. The right grip size should have your left hand touching your left hand ring finger. Gaps or digging into the hand mean the grip is the wrong size for you. You need to have the golf grip the right size so that your shot remains straight. Shaft flex Shaft flex is all to do with the power you put into the shot. A club with too much flex means the club head will generate power before it strikes the ball, whereas too stiff a shaft and you will not be able to generate a lot of power.

If you have a slow speed swing, say below 100 km an hour, then go for a flexible shaft marked F. If you have a faster swing then choose something stiffer, like an A rated club. Length and weight Club length and weight are two other important factors in golf club specifications. The length of a club affects balance and your stance. You need to make sure you get the right length of club for your height, which you can do by asking your local store for a fitting. The weight is also important. Beginners should stay away from heavy clubs as they lack control. Choose the best weight for you by trying out a variety of club weights and seeing how comfortable they feel.
Although golf club specifications can seem a little confusing, they are important factors to consider when buying clubs. Getting a club with the wrong specifications will affect your game, so make sure you ask if you are unsure about what a certain specification means.

Orange County Tee Times Are Available Whenever You Are!

It has never been easier to golf in Orange County, California. You will discover that there are multiple Orange County tee times available at your favorite golf courses in this warm-weather mecca in Southern California.

Early Morning Orange County Tee Times

When you are participating in a sport that can require cardiovascular activity, such as walking, and you are taking part in your favorite activity in a warm-weather part of the country, such as Southern California, you might want to look into early morning golfing opportunities. Orange County tee times are available at many fine golf courses starting as early as 5:00 am. Enjoy pleasant but cooler temperatures when you traverse the spectacular golf courses of Orange County in the early morning hours.

Another benefit to getting a workout in early in the day is that often times as your day progresses, you find yourself running out of time to get everything done that you wish to do. This means that you start making choices, and unfortunately your workout might be an activity that gets cut from your “to do” list. This problem is alleviated when you take advantage of early morning Orange County tee times. You can get in a few holes of golf, get showered and head out to work and your busy day with a workout already under your belt.

Mid-Day Orange County Tee Times

If you are retired or work swing shift, then you will find that Orange County tee times scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm are an ideal time to go golfing. You will experience fewer crowds on weekdays especially, and have a very enjoyable golfing experience.

Another group of golfers that will appreciate tee times in the middle of the day are business people. You can get a quick game in during the lunch hour. Some business meetings can actually have a fun, festive aspect to them when you invite business associates out with you to the golf course or country club during daytime business hours. Orange County tee times are easy to reserve for the middle of the work day as well, because you may do so from the comfort of your home or work computer day or night, whenever it fits into your busy schedule.

Twilight Orange County Tee Times
Typically the workday ends around 5:00pm. Booking Orange County tee times after 5:00pm is a fun and convenient way to unwind at the end of your busy day. It is great to feel the stress of the day melt away as you play your way around a fabulous nine- or eighteen-hole golf course. You can make a reservation for Orange County tee times for as late as 8:00pm in the evening, for a twilight golfing adventure.

Some Key Driving Tips For Longer Drives

Well, below are ten very important golf driving tips that will help you to improve your game. Follow these instructions and you are likely to find that your golf game will improve almost instantly, as long as you follow what is suggested, you should learn quickly and the results will be positive.

1) Balance is critical in executing any golf shot especially the driver. Remember that the driver is the most difficult club in the bag to hit so you need to be in control to hit this club well.

2) When you focus on swinging through the hitting area and completing the swing, your golf shots will improve dramatically.

3) A proper golf grip can ad extra yardage to your swing, in addition you will be on the fairway, instead of the water hazards, sand traps, or the rough.

4) Before swinging, make sure your mind is occupied with nothing else except successfully landing that ball into where it should be, where it belongs, down the middle of the fairway.

5) Your goal in driving the ball is accuracy first and distance second.

6) Everything in golf is variable even when using the same club and practice will help you to know the results that can be expected from changes in speed, swing and ball height on the tee.

7) One of the best ways to consistently hit long drives is to be physically fit enough to finish your round without getting fatigued.

When driving for distance, concentration must be focused on working the swing so that the face of the club comes into contact with the ball with such power and accuracy that it hits the fairway with maximum top spin.

9) A major source of power in the golf swing is the winding of the upper body against the resistance of the lower body on the backswing. The more you turn your shoulders relative to your hips, the more momentum you create for the downswing.

10) The hips unwind naturally and the shoulders follow, generating power through the hitting area, like a slingshot. To help feel the separation between your upper and lower body, turn your right toe in at address about 20 degrees, and swing. This will prevent your right hip from turning too much on the backswing.
