Gambling is on the rise across America with new and different types of gambling popping up everywhere. It used to be that compulsive gambling would take place primarily in casinos in a few select cities. However, big casinos are popping up everywhere and more than that, there are more options for people who want to gamble.

Every night Kenny comes home from work, flips open his laptop and starts placing bets on two of his favorite online poker sites. Jessica likes to play the video lottery terminals a few times a month when she is out with friends. Jeff places bets on his favorite sports teams before the big game. And Cathy stops at the casino a few nights a week before heading home to make dinner.

Do all of these people have a gambling problem? The easy answer is no, not yet. Gambling is on the rise across America with new and different types of gambling popping up everywhere. It used to be that compulsive gambling would take place primarily in casinos in a few select cities. However, big casinos are popping up everywhere and more than that, there are more options for people who want to gamble.

Online gambling is quickly becoming a popular and easy way for people to gamble without ever leaving their home. Many people would not immediately think that Kenny has a gambling problem because he never even leaves his home to fuel his addiction. Online gambling is probably one of the most dangerous types of gambling because of its accessibility. Anyone can log on and set up an account that allows them to easily withdraw money directly off of their credit card or out of their bank account.

Because online gambling is so immediate, it takes seconds to determine a win or lose, people can quickly cycle downward and into a cycle of addiction. Generally this happens much faster with online gambling than with traditional gambling such as black jack, poker or horse races.

Video lottery terminals are another quick and easy way that people get drawn into gambling. It usually starts very innocently, with a few dollars here and there. However, with the instant response of the video lottery booth, the immediate win or loss, it is all too easy to put more and more money into the lottery booth searching for the win response.

No matter what type of gambling they favor, compulsive gamblers often have a very misguided sense of the probabilities that are associated with gambling. Often they feel as if they are due to win, and that the next hand will be their hand. If they are playing on slot machines or video lottery booths, they may feel that after a series of losses, the machine is ready for a win and they cannot quit playing it because it will pay out soon.

Typically compulsive gamblers have strong superstitions regarding their gambling. They may have little rituals that must be performed before playing, or maybe a certain table is the lucky black jack table, certain numbers always should be played on the lottery and so on.

Gambling is big business with profits of over $47 billion annually for casinos and lotteries combined in the United States. It is estimated that two thirds of the adult population have at some point placed a bet of some kind. With numbers that big, compulsive gambling is a very real danger. Whether you like to bet on your favorite sports team occasionally, or put a few dollars into the slots, you could be at risk for developing a dangerous gambling addiction if you are not careful.

Most people think that people suffering from gambling problems have an addiction to money. Maybe they are just greedy right? Wrong, compulsive gambling has very little to do with money as most people think. Compulsive gambling is about a feeling that gambling produces for the individual.

Just like any other addiction, a compulsive gambler feels a ‘rush’ or ‘high’ when they have a win. The high that they feel creates a rush of good feelings in their brain that makes them feel great! They feel on top of the world, and life could not be any better. But that high does not last; the feeling only lasts as long as the win, maybe a few seconds, maybe a few days. Either way, the addict will crash again, and feel lower than before, leading them to seek out the next win. This is often called chasing the win.

The addict craves the feeling that is produced when they win, the rush of endorphins that makes them feel great. However, this is not a real feeling; gambling cannot create feel good endorphins in the brain. It can only mimic the feeling, which will lead the individual into a cycle of gambling addiction that will only worsen over time.

Of course, the compulsive gambler enjoys the wins because of the monetary benefit as well .However, the money will not last long, typically a gambling addict is drowning in debt and often has to resort to borrowing or stealing, and often selling possessions to pay the bills or find the next bit of money to gamble with.

Like any addiction, gamblers need their ‘fix’ they need to feel good and to create that feeling. And often they will need to resort to measures that they never would have in order to find the means to that end. 65% of compulsive gamblers will spend time in jail for committing a crime. Why? Because like other addicts, gamblers become desperate to feed their addiction and often resort to illegal activities to accomplish this.

Compulsive gambling needs to be treated like other addictions. Cocaine, alcohol, heroin, are all the same as compulsive gambling. All of these addicts need help to break free from their addictions, they cannot just walk away and quit. Addiction lies much deeper than that.

Endless hours spent at the casino, chasing bad money with good money, losing more and more, as you become more and more desperate. It can’t happen to you right? You only play the occasional game of poker, or throw a few dollars into a slot machine occasionally. There can be a fine line between social gambling and compulsive gambling, and nobody who becomes a compulsive gambler, ever thinks that is will happen to them.

Millions of people gamble every year. Whether it’s at the slots in Las Vegas, or betting on the horses at the local track, gambling is common place. In fact, more and more casinos are popping up all over the countryside every day making it easier and more acceptable for gambling to become part of your social life.

For most people gambling will always be a harmless pastime that is participated in only recreationally. But for a few, the occasional gambling experience will turn into a downward spiral that will lead to a dangerous addiction. It is estimated that 3% of Americans will at some time experience a very serious problem with gambling that could eventually lead to desperation involving crime, suicide and broken families.

The risks and dangers of compulsive gambling are real and very damaging. Gambling addicts suffer from a very high risk of broken families because the divorce rate doubles for gambling addicts. Those with children may risk losing their children to ex husbands and wives or even social services if they are unable to care properly for them.

Desperate for more money to spend at the casino in search of the next high, gambling addicts are more likely to lose their jobs as they are unable to properly function during the day, making excuses to leave and go to the casino. Or perhaps they take the risk and steal from their job?

Drowning in debt, gambling addicts will often sell everything they have in order to get more money to cover their habit. Compulsive gamblers often lose their house as they cannot keep up with mortgage payments or regular bill payments of any kind.

Compulsive gambling is dangerous, and it has real and very dangerous consequences for its addicts just like any other addiction. It is important to treat compulsive gambling like the dangerous addiction that it really is.

You do not automatically become a compulsive gambler the first time you start gambling, the change happens over time. For some, it happens faster than others, but typically there are three stages that you will travel through before you become a compulsive gambler.

1. Winning

The first stage is the winning stage, this is where you are just discovering gambling and how it feels to gamble and WIN!! The feelings produced by winning are great. You feel wonderful! You are happy, and everything is right with the world. You are making money and feeling great at the same time, what could be better? This stage sometimes lasts a day or two, or sometimes it will last longer depending on your luck. During this stage, you might start feeling confidant about gambling, and you may think that you have the system beat, and therefore may place larger and larger bets.

2. Losing

The second stage of gambling is when reality hits and you begin losing your bets. This is where you will feel the ‘high’ of gambling less and less, until you rarely experience it at all. Typically, you will start to gamble alone, and may begin hiding your gambling habits from friends and family. As you lose more and more money, you may begin borrowing or stealing money to pay for your habit.

3. Desperation

The third stage of gambling is the most serious. During the desperation stage, you increase the amount of time and money that you spend gambling until you are in serious trouble. During this stage, you will start to experience serious debt problems, your family life may begin to suffer leading to divorce or separation. You may lose your job and find yourself in a dangerous cycle without much hope to escape. It is in this phase that some compulsive gamblers will resort to desperate measures to fix their problems including illegal acts or even attempting suicide.

The progression through these stages of gambling will vary depending on the personality type of the individual and the type of gambling that they engage in. It has been found that people, who play instant gratification games such as the slot machines, video slots or video poker, including online gambling, will experience these three stages faster than other gamblers.

Materials Needed:
3/8″ X 4′ X 8′ sheets of plywood
8′ 2×4’s
handsaw
hammer & nails
electric sander/sandpaper
drafting compass
string & chalk
garden hose
sawhorses
nail punch
ink pen
wood screws
3/8″ PVC pipe
pushpin

1) Decide on the type of ramp(s) you want to build, sketch out the design and dimensions on paper.
2) Acquire the materials required, and as much wood as you can get your hands on
3) Find a work space to use (garage, backyard, etc.) and lay out your supplies. If you’re planning to build a fairly large structure (permanent) try to build it on site.
4) For ramps with curved transitions, you will need to use the string-and-compass method*.
5) Once you’ve drawn and cut your templates, next comes the bracing.
6) Once you’ve done the framework, you’ll most likely need to prep the top piece(s) of the plywood (which must bend to fit the transition without breaking). Do this by propping up the sheet(s)–already cut to size–at a sloping angle and soak with a hose at low pressure for an hour or so.

As the wood becomes soaked, apply an increasing amount of weight to the center of the board(s)–using bricks or something similar–until the wood attains the desired curve.

Now nail the wood onto the framework’s 2×4’s If your ramp is to have coping, make sure to leave enough space for it to fit snugly. Always go WITH the grain of the wood while bending and apply the ply!

For a smoother transition, sand the bottom edge of the top sheet at an angle flush with the ground. Check for jagged splinters. Sand or paint if desired. Paint will make your ramp faster! Duct tape, airplane or electrical tape or aluminum strips may be added to smooth the transition’s bottom edge.

* String and Compass Method

Figure how much transition curve you want (in feet & inches) and how much ‘vert, if any. Tie one end of the string around the pushpin and stick it in the sheet as shown. Holding the string taught, measure out exactly the amount of transition and mark this on the string with an ink pen. Tie the drafting compass to the other end of the string and tighten it so the slipknot is right on top of the mark you made. Holding the string taut, swing the compass from the sheet’s edge in a quarter-circle, marking the template with the chalk. You may need to move the contraption around to get the desired curve and best use of space! Place sheet on sawhorses and cut out templates carefully.

NEW ADDITION ON DECREASING TRANSITIONS:

If you want to make a ramp with a decreasing transition, you need to modify the above steps and instead of using a pushpin, use a round object that is 6 inches to 3 feet in diameter, such as a paint can or a round garbage can. Attach the string to the round object and somehow secure it to the wood in place of the pushpin.

As the string winds around the round object, it will get shorter and your transition will become tighter. This is called a decreasing radius transition and it is very cool when making launch ramps and quarter pipes.

So you are nine months pregnant, you’re excited and can’t wait for the day to come. You wait and you wait and you wait, still nothing. There are few things as frustrating as this, I know from personal experience! There are many little things that you can do to try and speed up your time. Of course this should only be done after consulting your doctor and when you are already in your ninth month of pregnancy. Getting labor over with is all fine and good but not at the expense of the baby’s health!

Here are safe ways to induce labor and finally have that baby:

Walking

Many women walk, A LOT. Walking stimulates the muscles in your uterus and may stimulate contractions.

Tea with Thyme

It has been said that tea wit thyme has induced labor for many women.

Scalini’s Restaurant

This restaurant is in Georgia. Three hundred women in the past 23 years have gone into labor within 48 hours after eating their eggplant parmegiana. It is said that it is not actually the eggplant that induces labor, but the seasonings added to the dinner. Basil and Oregano are said to contain herbs that supposedly can stimulate labor contractions.

Primrose oil

This is another natural product that is said to start contractions.

Castor Oil

This oil is said to cause contractions because it causes diarrhea. The cramps from the diarrhea are said to start cramps in your uterus, which starts labor.

Acupuncture

This is sometimes used to induce labor by placing acupuncture needles on the inner calf and between the thumb and forefinger. You can also rub these 2 areas for 30 seconds each and that is supposed to induce labor.

Doctor Stripping Membranes

The doctor can strip your membranes by inserting 2 fingers into the woman’s uterus and moving them from side to side, pulling the membranes away from the cervix wall.

Sex

It is said that sex can start contractions, by the penis thinning the uterus and preparing it to open.

Black cohosh and blue cohosh

These are said to stimulate the start of contractions.

Raspberry Leaf Tea

This method was used by the Native Americans and is still sometimes used by midwives on their patients. The concept of it is based on all the others; it stimulates contractions.

Nipple Stimulation

This odd method causes oxytocin, which in turn makes your uterus contract.

Cinnamon Sticks

Boil cinnamon sticks in with your tea and drink it, yummy and effective.

Relaxation exercises

Relaxation exercises have been known to relax the woman into a state for labor to start. You can find a variety of relaxation exercises online.

It should be noted (again) that none of these ways should be used unless the pregnant woman is near her due date. More than likely they will not work anyway unless the baby is ready to be born. You can give nature a little nudge but not likely a giant push, which you would not want to do anyways.

If you are in your ninth month, tired of being huge and just too excited that you cannot wait, these are excellent ways to try to start you labor.

What exactly is a limousine? For many people, the word “limousine” conjures up the image of an incredibly long car with lots of dark-tinted windows. Actually, a limousine can be as simple as a nice Lincoln Town Car. There’s no standard limousine make or model — instead, the word refers to a vehicle that has a larger compartment in the back half of the car than your average automobile. To call a car a limousine, you really just need a nice car that has a lot of leg room in the rear compartment. It also helps if you have a driver, or chauffeur, driving the car for you while you relax in the back.
Limousines are available in many styles, sizes and uses.
Luxury Sedan - One of the most popular Luxury Sedan is the Lincoln Town car series. They accommodate up to 4 passengers and is a great vehicle for business service and airport transfers.
Stretch limousine - Stretch Limousines are the ultimate in style and elegance. These limousine typically accommodate up to 12 passengers and include wet bars and trendy neon lighting. You can expect plush leather seating and elegant interiors.
Super-Stretch limousine - Super Stretch Limousines are the extreme in chauffeured transportation. They can accommodate up to 14 passengers and include such features as privacy dividers and panels, fiber optic lighting moon roof and much more. This is the vehicle to rent to travel in comfort and style.
There are a lot of limousine hire (for example http://www.booklimo.co.uk/) companies out there and it can be hard to know which ones are trustworthy and which ones shouldn’t even be in business.
1. When first thinking of booking a limousine for your next special occasion try not to go on price alone. Low prices do not mean better service.
2. Wherever possible, view the limo at the premises of the company you will be hiring from. The last thing you want is your day to be ruined because a limousine hire company sends you an old rusty limousine.
3. Do not take the first quote offered. It is worth considering looking at several companies before committing a deposit to hire.
4. Ask friends, etc to see if they can recommend a limousine hire company which they have used and know the service is good. The best recommendation is word of mouth.
5.	Read carefully all the terms and conditions of each companies contracts and ensure you are totally satisfied.
6. Ask what additional extras are supplied with the limousine hire i.e. drinks, snacks, interior decorations (birthdays, etc). Especially for Weddings.
7. Ask the company about how much time you have the limousine for, are there any added extras and are there any conditions that may apply but are not in print. Some companies charge extra for photos to be taken.
It can also be very time consuming trying to tell the good from the bad so I hope above mentioned short checklist can help you cull the list of limousine hire companies to find the right one for you.
